Since 1969, The Art Center, formed by members of the Mount Clemens Art Association, has been housed in the historic Carnegie Library Building in downtown Mount Clemens. The only facility of its kind in Macomb County, the neoclassical structure is listed in the State of Michigan Historic Register. The Carnegie Library was built in 1904, and was the only library built by Carnegie in Macomb County, Michigan. It is one out of 1,681 such libraries across the United States financed by Andrew Carnegie, the industrialist and philanthropist.
This former library is now a vital part of the art community whose mission is to enrich and inspire the lives of Macomb County residents and visitors of all ages, through the infusion of the arts into everyday life. In addition to showcasing local artists, The Art Center offers classes in mixed medias for all ages. A list of classes is here.
The annual fundraiser is the Anton Art Center’s largest fundraiser. Last year’s event raised over $28,000 and attracted more than 500 guests to support the center’s programs and operations. This year the theme is Twilight in the Tropics. Put on your Hawaiian shirts and dresses and join the party in Mt. Clemens, on Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 5:30 to 8 pm. Space is limited at the fundraiser, tickets are now on sale at the Anton Art at $50 each ($60 the week of ArtParty); $28 is tax deductible.
ArtParty features a “taste of Macomb County,” with over thirty area restaurants and caterers gathered under large tents along Macomb Place, just outside the art center building. ArtParty attendees roam the tents sampling appetizers, desserts, wine & champagne and more.
